SK Klian Pauh emerged as the first runner-up for the Action Song Competition in the Larut Matang & Selama English Carnival held at SK(P)Treacher Methodist on 18 April, 2015. The Year Three pupils were excited and enjoyed presenting in front of the fully packed hall . They had been practising hard for this event. On 9 April, they participated in the Kamunting Zone English Carnival and became the Champ.
13 girls are from Year 3 Teratai and two are from Year 3 Dahlia . The objectives of this activity is to encourage the pupils to learn and improve their English through singing and enjoying it as well as performing a medley of songs by dancing and doing actions. It is through action songs that pupils maintain their love for learning English. Correct pronunciation of words is stressed . Through their performances on stage , pupils get the opportunity to build up their confidence. Through constant practice, pupils learn to improve and overcome their own weaknesses.
This performance aims to send a strong message to all to be aware of the environment,to love, preserve and protect it. Kids speak out for the sake of saving our planet Earth for the future.
Special thanks to Mr Travis who had helped me to edit the music. The other teachers who had discussed with me on various aspects are Madam Annaletchumie and Puan Aida, Puan Fatimah ( choreography ) and Puan Norziah Jusoh for helping me train the vocal. These pupils practised during their lessons and after school hours. I had to stay back to be in-charge but it was worth it as the pupils were progressing gradually. Special thanks to Puan Rohani Ghazali who had helped to make those big orange flowers and added small flowers on the belts. I am grateful too to my sister-in-law who had helped me to sew the blue cloth meant to be the 'ocean' ,belts and poncos. Thanks a lot to Puan Aida from preschool who had helped to apply make-up on the participants. My sincere thanks too to our headmistress, Hjh Rokiah for being with us to give her encouragement. The video recording was done by Cik Noorhaslina and I appreciate it. A few teachers and parents had turned up to watch the performance and give moral support and all these had contributed to the success of this performance. Although it might not be a star performance,it was a surely fruitful and memorable one for the pupils who will treasure every beautiful moment of being on stage. Luckily, the costumes from the musical theatre last year came into handy.
Congratulations to Nuvasheenee who is the first runner-up of the LMS District English Carnival Public Speaking Competition. Nuva is good role-model for other pupils as she has been participating in competitions since small. She has courage and good discipline.
Our other two participants are Delashini and Hazwani who participated in the Poetry Recitation Contest but they were not lucky to win the top prizes. We hope they are not disappointed but will try their best in future competitions.
SK Klian Pauh will be participating in Choral Speaking next year. This school had won at the national level before and hope we can bring back the glory together.
News and activities of the teachers and pupils fill this special blog in English. Interesting links to other websites, videos and Powerpoint presentations are provided. English is an effective tool for communication.

RHB - New Straits Times Spell-It-Right Challenge 2015
On 11 April , three pupils participated in the preliminary round of the RHB- NST Spell-it-right Challenge in UNIKL , Tasek , Perak.
They were Delashini, Lekisha and Afrin. Pn Norsiah and Madam Oon accompanied them there. The results will be known soon and only 100 lucky participants who qualified to the Perak State Challenge would be contacted.
Spelling is important and more constant practice is needed for pupils to improve. Through spelling of the new words learnt , pupils will learn the meanings of the words and their usage in sentences.
Hopefully, SK Klian Pauh will be able to send more participants to this competition next year as it is good exposure for them. Spelling competitions should be held in school at all levels.
Motivating The Others
The winners of the English Carnival events received their trophies and certificates again during the school assembly this morning, this time from the headmistress, Pn Hjh Rokiah Ahmad. The other pupils cheered and clapped for them. It is such achievements that will inspire and motivate the others to do better. Learning English through fun activities is important as they will help them in improving their proficiency in English. Pupils must get rid of their shyness and be bold to take the challenges such as participating in competitions.
SK Klian Pauh-English Language Carnival Kamunting Zone Champs for 3 Events.
Many were interested to participate in the Action Song performance but only 15 were selected. These Year 3 kids had to memorise the lyrics of three songs and pronounce the words correctly. They are a bunch of active and brave kids. The three songs were all about our environment and they understood the message which is to love, protect and preserve our environment. Children must take action themselves for the sake of saving the earth. They learn not to litter and collect recyclable items for recycling. The singing and dancing is fun.

Farewell to our Pn Hjh Nor Hashimi , our headmistress.
Pn Hjh Nor Hashimi, our ex-headmistress retired at the beginning of the 2015 but the farewell ceremony for her was held earlier before the long holidays. Dewan Sri Pauh was beautifully decorated and tables were set fit for a 'wedding' and guests who attended included heads of primary schools in Kamunting Zone and Pn Hjh Nor Hashimi's good friends.
There were entertaining performances of the angklung band , choir and mini musical theatre. It was a memorable occasion to show our appreciation and thanks to our headmistress who had contributed a lot to the school. It was her effort and motivation together with good team work that had helped SK Klian Pauh win the Cluster School of Excellence award .
Pn Nor Hashimi, we teachers and pupils, staff and parents wish you "Happy Retirement" and many happy and healthy days ahead. We hope Pn Nor Hashimi will drop by to visit us when she is free or when invited to any event in school.

The Mini Musical Theatre - The Magic of the Mangroves - A New Experience
As the mini musical theatre performance is over and it is already the new year and our Headmistress , Pn Noorhasimi has just retired, I am writing in this blog just to reflect and report on this programme. 24 November was a memorable day to all of us involved especially the kids who had a lot of fun. Most of all , I would like to thank everyone who has helped in anyway to make this happen.
In September ,I started selecting the pupils for the performance. Besides those who can speak and sing well,I chose some who were weak in their studies. It was an opportunity to encourage them to study hard. 30 pupils were selected from Year 3 till Yr 5. The other 6 were stage hands from Yr 6 and 5.
It was the first few conversations with Mr Alan Cochlan, Mr Travis and Mr Martin which inspired me to do the best and I was more than confident that it would be successful. Our HM, Pn Hjh Noorhasimi who has just retired was the driving force as this would be the last performance by the pupils and outing with our school. Being a new Cluster School, SK Klian Pauh has to make linkages with other agencies which had contacts with others up to international level . We have to thank our Larut ,Matang & Selama District Education Office for selecting our school. It was the Perak Forestry Department which had offered this opportunity for us to perform a short musical theatre as the main entertainment during the opening ceremony of The Perak Conference On A Century of Mangrove Forest Management " which was held on the 24 November at Casuarina Hotel in Bandar Meru, near Ipoh, Perak. The department sponsored all the costumes and the provided transportation, accommodation and food during the two days in Ipoh. The Music Club of this school accepted this as one of the niche projects for Cluster School and chipped in to help fund the training , food and props. It surely was a costly project as it involved a big group of pupils but nothing is wasted. In fact, there was a lot to gain in knowledge and experience.
The pupils were excited to perform and they practised hard to memorise the lyrics of the songs, steps and dialogues. The English mentors who are actually attached to other schools were eager to help in the training and they became my new friends as well. Our first outdoor excursion was to the Matang Mangrove Eco Park and with Mr Alan explaining the importance of being connected to nature , the pupils realised that they were in for a new natural experience with the beautiful flora and fauna. The trip brought them to the charcoal factory to witness the processing of charcoal from the mangrove tree trunks. The trip was wonderful and back in school , the training began just after the songs were selected. We engaged a good tailor to sew all the costumes for the animals and she finally charged us a huge sum for workmanship too. However, those costumes are for us to keep for future use.
I wrote the whole script helped by Mr Travis who is very creative and is full of ideas. During the meetings in school, Mr Travis and I presented an overview to our headmistress and teachers. Together with the mentors and teachers, we managed to conduct a few training sessions and finally the full presentations were performed during the Annual Speech Day and during the Farewell of our HM, Pn Noorhasimi. Each time, there were some areas to be improved and we worked on them.
A few photos below on the musical activity from the beginning to the end. The rest are presented through a slideshow.
